Ariose Singers' adventurous spring program features two masterworks of their respective eras: The Lamentations of Jeremiah by Thomas Tallis, a widely-acknowledged pinnacle of Renaissance music, and Paul Hindemith's settings of six of Rilke's French poems, one of the gems of the 20th-century repertoire. Accompanying these pieces are three short, exquisite pieces from the Spanish Renaissance, and a selection of Romantic part-songs by Robert Schumann. The remainder of the program features newer pieces by living composers, including Bernard Rands' "...among the voices..." for harp and chorus, an intelligent, moody and lyrical setting of a poem by Samuel Beckett.
